Why we opened this campaign
On January 12–13, a severe storm raged across Israel with thunderstorms, heavy winds, and torrential rain lasting nearly two days. Major highways were closed, lowlands and fields were flooded, and water swept away gardens, campsites, and homes. A reservist, a former lone soldier from a combat unit, contacted our foundation. Upon returning from duty, he discovered that all his belongings and documents were destroyed. He literally has nowhere to live and nothing to wear.
Unfortunately, we cannot post his photo; in his case, there is a direct prohibition from the IDF. All documents regarding this story have been verified, and the photos of the damage are authentic. Below is his appeal, unchanged.
"Hello, My name is Nisim. I am currently serving in the Israel Defense Forces and previously held 'lone soldier' (chayal boded) status. I am reaching out with a sincere request for help due to the emergency situation I find myself in.
I have been living in an apartment in Moshav Shtulim, at 62 Rishonim Street, for almost six months, planning to stay there long-term. During this period, I invested significant personal funds and borrowed money from friends to furnish the home: purchasing furniture, appliances, essential household items, and fixing up the garden. I am still paying installments for some of the furniture and appliances.
On January 13, 2026, returning from duty, I couldn't reach my home immediately because Shtulim was completely flooded. I had to take a detour through Emunim. When I finally reached the apartment, I saw it was entirely submerged. The flooding was so severe that the refrigerator had tipped over and was floating in the water. All appliances, furniture, beds, clothes, and personal belongings were underwater for a long time.
Unfortunately, almost all of my property was completely destroyed and cannot be restored. As it turned out, the landlord does not have home insurance and is currently unable to provide any assistance. The only thing he confirmed was his consent to terminate the lease agreement to allow me to leave and find a new place.
As of today, I am left practically without personal belongings, furniture, or appliances, and I am forced to find a new home and start everything from scratch. In light of the above, I ask you to consider the possibility of providing me with assistance in any form available: help in finding new housing, a subsidy, assistance with purchasing basic appliances or furniture, or any other support you deem possible. I would be sincerely grateful for any help and attention to my situation."
