Why we opened this campaign
Recently Leah met her fiancé Leah is 26 years old. She is the fourth of seven children. She lives in Safed and works as a madricha-hinuchit (educational counselor) in a boarding school for 11th graders. She loves her job very much and is also studying at a college in Safed to become a social worker. In her free time, Leah travels around Israel and visits her brothers, sisters, and nieces and nephews.
Recently, through a friend, Leah met her fiancé. Moshe is 28 years old; he completed a Chabad yeshiva and plans to work in education. He is now studying to become a teacher while continuing his regular learning at a kollel.
From the very first meeting, this couple realized – it was a perfect match. From their first date, they discovered how much their views on life, the future, and the meaning of family aligned. It was one of those rare cases when two halves of one whole meet.
Leah’s family lives in very modest circumstances. Her father was severely affected during the coronavirus illness and partially lost his vision. Unfortunately, Bituach Leumi (National Insurance Institute) did not recognize a sufficient level of disability for him to receive full benefits – so the family gets only 1,500 shekels per month. The family accumulated significant debt, and as a result, the bank blocked their account.
Leah’s parents tried very hard to manage on their own – they applied for debt restructuring and were even willing to take out new loans – but were refused everywhere.
That is why they turned to our foundation for help.
Leah herself is unaware of the situation. Her parents are doing everything they can to preserve her joy and peace before the wedding. Any help will be a true salvation and will allow this family to celebrate this important day without fear or shame.
In addition to the wedding campaign, we also connected the Smart Chesed program and a social worker to help Leah’s family obtain disability status and benefits.
