Why we opened this campaign
Very soon, Menachem and Nesia will stand together under the chuppah. Their journey to one another took years and crossed different countries, spiritual searching, a return to their roots, and life-changing decisions.
Menachem grew up in Russia knowing almost nothing about Judaism. After university, he came to Israel for the first time through the Taglit-Birthright Israel and Masa programs, where he was introduced to Jewish tradition and slowly began searching for his own path. Five years ago, Menachem entered a yeshiva for baalei teshuva and devoted himself fully to Torah study. Today, he lives in Jerusalem, studies in yeshiva throughout the day, and works in the evenings.
Nesia grew up in Mexico. From childhood, she was immersed in the arts and was building a career in music. But even a successful creative life did not feel like enough. She was searching for deeper meaning and for her place in the world.
During a trip to Israel, Nesia felt an extraordinary connection to the land and to the Jewish people. Later, she learned from her grandmother that her family had Jewish roots, although the documents that could have confirmed them had long been lost.
Nesia then made a decision that would completely change her life. She left her music career behind and moved to Israel to undergo conversion to Judaism.
She arrived on October 6, 2023 — just one day before the war began.
Despite everything that happened, Nesia did not leave. She stayed in Israel, completed her conversion, studied in ulpan, and translated Torah lessons into Spanish.
Meanwhile, Menachem was searching for his future wife. He turned to matchmakers, prayed at the Kotel for forty consecutive days, and traveled to Amuka to pray at the tomb of Rabbi Yonatan ben Uziel.
One day, a rabbi Menachem knew told him about a convert from Mexico whose story seemed remarkably similar to his own.
As they began looking into the details, they discovered something unexpected: Menachem had already been told about this same young woman two years earlier, when she was still in the process of conversion.
That woman was Nesia.
For Nesia, meeting Menachem was her very first shidduch.
Now, be’ezrat Hashem, Menachem and Nesia will soon stand under the chuppah and begin building their Jewish home together.
But starting their life together is not easy. Menachem dedicates most of his day to studying in yeshiva and works in the evenings. Nesia began her life in Israel almost entirely from scratch. The young couple has little in savings and cannot cover all the costs of their wedding and the beginning of married life on their own.
That is why we are opening this fundraiser: to help Menachem and Nesia celebrate their wedding with dignity and begin their married life without a heavy financial burden.
The funds raised will cover the essential expenses of the wedding and their new home: the wedding hall and meal, clothing for the bride and groom, other necessary wedding expenses, and the first basic items they will need for their life together.
