Why we opened this campaign
Pesach is one of the most significant holidays we look forward to with great awe! It reminds us of our people's liberation from Egyptian slavery and the importance of showing respect for freedom and life!
By law, every Jew is bound to make sure that he or she has everything for a Pesach feast meal. Yet not all Jews can afford to buy even the necessities for this memorable event.
Kimcha de Pischa literally means “flour for Pesach”. This is more than just a set of words! It is the responsibility of every Jew to help others who cannot afford the holiday Pesach expenses.
(Bava Batra, ch.1) The Book of Zohar says: a person should be happy during the holidays and make the poor happy.
For this reason, the Yad Yitzhak Foundation has been helping needy Jews for nine years, collecting donations for them on Pesach day.
An important thing to remember is that on this holiday everyone should be delighted and please the poor. The "measure for measure" principle works here. As we help the poor, G-d helps us.
The Rambam writes: "When he eats meat and drinks wine, he is bound to feed a stranger, an orphan, a widow, and other destitute people. The man who locks the doors of his courtyard, eating and drinking with his sons, and his wife, but not giving food or drink to the poor - this is not his feast joy, but his belly." (Alachot yom tov, 6:18)
The Shulchan Aruch (429) states that everyone should join in the "kimcha de Pischa." We should be generous and do everything in our power to make sure that every Jew has a kosher holiday.
