Why we opened this campaign
Alexander Bavinov is a legendary figure for his students. A sensei, a teacher, a moral authority, and a reliable source of calm strength that children and teenagers desperately need, especially in challenging times.
Alexander runs two karate schools in Ashkelon and one in Ashdod. His students are prize-winners in many competitions, earning awards and trophies. However, since October 7, 2023, his work has been forced to stop for three months due to continuous bombardments from the Gaza Strip.
Despite being unable to work, Alexander still had to pay for the premises and arnona (property tax). Since immigrating from Ukraine eight years ago, Alexander, his wife, and their three children have never faced such a dire financial situation.
It's not just that the income has dried up, and there is no state support for small businesses.
It's not just that banks refuse to issue loans, the credit debt eats up all income, and the family's valuables are already pawned.
It's not just that paid medical insurance has been suspended due to debts, and the shelling from the Gaza Strip continues.
The issue is that Alexander's schools are about caring for students, young people, and children. They are centers of strength where one can momentarily escape the harsh reality and regain strength. To catch one's breath, gather thoughts, and receive support.
If we let this endeavor sink, we will lose far more than just karate schools. We will lose a vital pillar of reality that nurtures the strength of spirit in our children. Helping them fight against evil, which sometimes even we cannot overcome. Fight – and win!
