Why we opened this campaign
Everyone believes that life’s challenges will never break them. We think: "We’ll endure this, overcome that, get through this – and then we’ll live!" But just like water wears away stone, day by day, our weak points erode under the weight of challenges and problems. In the end, we find ourselves in situations we never thought we’d face.
Aviva's story is a perfect example.
Four years ago, Aviva and her husband moved to Israel full of hope: "We’ll live!" Her husband worked in air conditioning repair, a lucrative job in the Israeli climate. Aviva, a professional graphic designer, freelanced while taking care of their young son.
They lived happily, their child growing and bringing joy to his parents. They dreamed of a stable future and believed their efforts would soon pay off. Very soon...
Everything changed a year ago.
First, the war hit their finances hard. Work dried up, her husband’s income plummeted, and the debts began to pile up.
The stress and uncertainty slowly, yet relentlessly, engulfed the family.
Just when it seemed things couldn’t get worse, they did.
Unable to bear the pressure and seeking solace, Aviva’s husband turned to what seemed like an escape – drugs. But as we all know, controlled use never works. Quickly, the drug went from being a friend to a master, demanding complete obedience.
When things hit rock bottom, Aviva’s husband found the strength to admit the problem and entered rehab. According to the clinic’s program, he will spend the next nine months freeing himself from the grip of addiction. It’s undoubtedly the right decision, but what about Aviva?
For her and their young son, this was the beginning of a nightmare.
Her husband had been the family’s primary breadwinner. Now he was gone, leaving her alone with financial problems and mounting debts. Aviva barely speaks Hebrew and is desperately looking for any job she can find to provide for her family.
But now she’s facing it all alone – with a small child and crushing debt.
In Israel, she has no relatives, no close friends.
No plan. No hope.
Aviva turned to the Yad Yitzchok Foundation for help. Over the next nine months, her family needs 37,000 shekels to cover basic expenses: rent, childcare, groceries, utilities, and to pay off the loan they took out together.
She will need 17,000 shekels in the next three months while she searches for work and sees if she qualifies for government assistance. The remaining amount will be needed afterward, giving her the chance to gradually regain her independence.
At Yad Yitzchok, we don’t just believe, we know how the power of community helps people get back on their feet during the hardest times!
Every contribution you make is a chance for Aviva and her son to overcome this overwhelming period in their lives. By helping now, you are giving her the opportunity to find stability and return to a normal life for years to come.
Not to just "survive." But to live.
Make your contribution and support this family through this dark, challenging time.
