Why we opened this campaign
Shira was once a regular member of a Moscow Jewish community. She was well-known there as someone with a huge heart, always looking for ways to help those around her, continually finding time and money for acts of charity.
Shira has lived alone for many years; her only son, a naval officer, died in a car accident. This tragedy took a severe toll on her—she began to grow physically weaker: her legs started hurting badly, and moving on her own became more difficult by the day.
In 2019, Shira moved to Israel, hoping that the renowned Israeli healthcare system would help her recover. Unfortunately, no miracle occurred. Two joint replacement surgeries did not improve her condition. Shira still moves with great difficulty, relying on a special device. Even getting to the nearest store or clinic poses a serious challenge. Due to her leg issues, she began falling often; in December, she broke her arm badly.
Because of her limited mobility, Shira had to buy an old but reliable car—otherwise she would have had no way to get to her medical appointments. To do so, she was forced to take out a bank loan. Then came a second loan, needed urgently to purchase special medical shoes. A third followed for sudden dental problems. As a result, the allowance Shira receives does not cover her debt repayments, leaving her account in the red. Another surgery is scheduled for May, which will bring new expenses.
Shira reached out to the fund to request help covering part of her debts. In this situation, every shekel can help her break free from financial hardship.
