The story

Why we opened this campaign

In the Jewish world, there is a special mission — to be a shaliach.
It means living far from Israel, among Jews who have often forgotten that they are part of the nation — helping them remember, supporting them, gathering a community around tradition and faith.
An honorable service that demands strength, patience, and complete dedication.

At the time of the dramatic story we want to tell, Anna and her family had already been carrying out this mission in Russia for several years.
More than three hundred people in the community, hundreds of Jewish students — everyone knew they could turn to Anna and her husband for a word, for help, for advice.

On holidays, the family regularly came to Israel — briefly, just to see relatives, to breathe in a bit of home.
Insurance? A citizen cannot be insured as a tourist.
And a long period of absence automatically deprived the whole family of resident status — and therefore of access to medical care.
Yes, there are private insurances, but figuring them out is a separate adventure.
They thought: the family is healthy, what could happen in just a few days?
But history, alas, knows no “what ifs.”

It happened on Rosh Hashanah.
On the second day of the holiday, ten-year-old Aaron complained that his leg hurt.
 By evening, he stopped walking.
A few days later, he could not even stand.
By Yom Kippur, the boy was no longer eating or drinking, losing strength and weight — fifteen kilograms gone in just a few days.

Osteomyelitis.
A word that changes everything. One of the most dangerous bone diseases, capable of severely damaging the body and leading to disability or even bone removal. It develops rapidly, the consequences are terrifying, and the treatment is long and complex.

Anna no longer remembers Sukkot. She remembers the hospital, the machines, the chemical smell of antiseptics, the fear and emptiness inside.
How could this happen? What did they do wrong? How would they pay for all this?

A month in an Israeli hospital — for that kind of money, one could buy a couple of mid-sized islands in the Pacific.
All that time, the doctors were fighting not even for full recovery, but simply for the possibility of transporting the boy back to Russia — where insurance and coverage existed.
All contacts and connections were used, the best lawyers involved. They managed to significantly reduce the debt, but the bill still remained huge — 150,000 shekels.

The family clenched their teeth and prepared to tighten their belts. The first 100,000 were saved while still on shlichut; the remaining 50,000 became due just after returning to Israel. They managed to survive for another half-year on their last strength — and now that strength is gone.
Anna and her husband cannot cope alone anymore. Their account is already deep in the red, heading toward blockage.

Baruch Hashem, Aaron is alive, walking, studying. Smiling.
For a mother, that is worth any money in the world — and we believe you understand that.

Anna never knew how to ask for help for herself.
To help others, even to ask on behalf of others — yes. But for herself, she always thought she could bear any weight.
It turned out — not any.

Without us, this family will not cope; they will drown in debt.
By uniting and each contributing just a few shekels, we can pull them out of this pit and help them stand again in the face of financial disaster.
